New Soles for Little Souls Outreach Program

About the Project
Each year, our Sunday School teachers strive to reach out beyond the textbooks, and put our Lord's Bible teachings into ACTION.

After much discussion, we all agreed that getting them involved in a project in which they can relate, would have a deeper meaning, and hopefully make an impression that we are to love one another as Jesus taught us.

Quota International on the MS Gulf Coast works very closely with the Harrison County Emergency Children's Shelter, Hope Haven Children's Services, the Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse and the Women's Center for Non-Violence. Vicki Miller serves as Quota's President. She reported that child abuse and neglect has tripled since Hurricane Katrina. Unfortunately, budgets for these agencies have been drastically cut, so they need our help more than ever.

According to officials with these agencies, 9 times out of 10, these children arrive on their doorsteps with little more than the ragged clothes on their back - and no shoes. Can you imagine? These are children RIGHT HERE IN OUR COUNTIES! Not a third world country... not a ghetto slum area...but right here in your neighborhood.

Nothing gives the children more hope, or a sense that someone cares, than a new pair of shoes. It's one of the first things these shelters do when a child is brought in.

How St. Mark's Sunday School Children Are Helping
Each class will have a specially designated bank for this purpose. It will be emptied each week, and the money counted.

WE ENCOURAGE ALL FAMILIES TO DISCUSS and take part in this project! It is important that the children know where the money is going! Plan with them, little chores they can do around the house to earn money for this cause. It doesn't have to be any certain amount... pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters.... What is important, is that THEY feel that they have a part in this!

Watch our totals rise on our special board in the Parish Hall!
